Investigations in laboratory and on already installed fire systems:: convincing results

In order to define its efficiency, reliability and maintenance needs after a specific operating period, the Zumik®on was intensively tested over a long period of time. The extremely positive results of the EMPA, the gratifying results of the pilot and test market systems as well as the diverse possibilities for use allowed Rüegg to bring the Zumik®ons onto the market.

Investigations at EMPA

The particle separator consistently achieved good separation efficiency in the laboratory, sometimes over 80%. Various components were exposed to demanding conditions in long term tests. In this way for example the control was tested for 3,300 hours at a maximum energy load or 5,000 hours with permanent excess current, without sustaining any damages.

Tests on pilot and field investigation systems

The pilot system gauged by EMPA – fire place insert with ceramic cladding - achieved a separating efficiency of over 80%, whereas the average value was 73%. Due to the small current consumption (< 12W) the electricity costs for 350 operating hours (eletrode turned on) was just CHF 0.85 (€ 0.55) and so very small.

Systems in the field show a similarly high separation rate when installed correctly. Values of 90% were recorded for modern pellet fires.

Separation grade 57-81%

The separation efficiency in the investigation on the pilot system vary between 57% and 81%, which corresponds to an average value of 73%
